Disabled Former KHOU Employee Files Suit
Netflix and Amazon are streaming-service rivals, but on Tuesday the two were united as defendants in a multimillion-dollar defamation and wrongful-termination lawsuit by a former employee of both companies. In his suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, which also names top Netflix execs Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos as defendants, Jerry Kowal is seeking at least $1 million — and damages potentially worth millions more.
Judge Elizabeth Allen White has declared a mistrial in Nicollette Sheridan’s wrongful termination suit against ABC Studios and ABC Entertainment. The judge took her action, as she said she would, after the 12-person jury came back to court today unable to resolve their 8-4 deadlock of late last week.
Wednesday’s arguements will be crucial to framing nine days of conflicting testimony for the jury, which has heard from Nicollette Sheridan, Marc Cherry, actor James Denton and a host of writers, producers and others affiliated with the ABC series.
