KTUL Tulsa Names Kevin Coskren Chief Meteorologist

Sinclair Broadcast Group’s ABC affiliate KTUL Tulsa, Okla., has appointed Kevin Coskren chief meteorologist. He will deliver forecasts for the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts.

Coskren joins from The Accuweather Network where he hosted Accuweather Prime, a national primetime show.

KTUL General Manager Amy Calvert said: “For 70 years KTUL has been a leader in weather for Oklahoma. Keeping our viewers informed and safe is our priority. Kevin’s heart for community and decades of experience, forecasting weather across the country, makes him the right person to continue our strong legacy.”

As a weather and climate scientist and broadcast professional, Coskren’s passion for meteorology has taken him all over the United States. He’s covered tornadoes on the Plains, Nor’easters in New England and hurricanes on the Southeast Coast. In May of 2004, Coskren won several awards for his coverage of a tornado in Hallam, Neb., which at the time was the widest tornado on record, a whopping 2.5 miles wide.

Coskren earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Notre Dame and earned his Master of Science degree in meteorology from the University of Wisconsin.

He received the AMS Seal of Approval in 1999 while forecasting weather for WKBT La Crosse, Wis.
