NBCUniversal Local’s Telemundo Station Group – which includes 31 Telemundo-owned stations – and NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises are partnering with the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials Educational Fund to host a voter-registration phone bank March 12, from noon to 9:30 p.m. ET, when individuals can speak live with bilingual operators toll-free.
As part of Decision 2024, a company-wide multiplatform news and civic engagement initiative, NBCUniversal Local’s Telemundo Station Group – which includes 31 Telemundo-owned stations – and NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises are partnering with the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund to host a voter-registration phone bank Tuesday, March 12, from noon to 9:30 p.m. ET, when individuals can speak live with bilingual operators toll-free at 1-888-839-8682 (1-888-VE-Y-VOTA).
“We’re committed to empowering our communities through knowledge and engagement, and we strive to inspire our audiences to exercise their fundamental right to vote and participate in democracy,” says Osvaldo “Ozzie” Martínez, EVP of multiplatform news, original programming and standards for Telemundo Station Group. “We’re proud to again collaborate with NALEO to support their efforts and deliver vital information and resources during another important election season.”
Telemundo Station Group and NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises will host monthly voter-registration phone banks to provide access to voting-related information and resources through the 2024 general elections on Nov. 5.
The Telemundo-owned stations will promote the phone banks to their local audiences, while Telemundo Network will amplify the events nationally on its morning show, Hoy Día, newscast Noticias Telemundo Mediodía and through its corporate social responsibility program, El Poder En Ti along with other social and digital media platforms.
“As the primary season is underway and Latino voters head to the ballot box, it is crucial for us to continue working to empower our community with the resources and information needed to make our voices heard,” says Arturo Vargas, NALEO Educational Fund CEO. “At least 17.5 million Latinos are expected to cast their ballots this November, representing a 6.5 percent increase from 2020. With these projections being just the floor, it is evident our community will play a critical role in who will be elected to the White House and congressional contests in November. We are excited to continue our voter engagement efforts and partnership with Telemundo as Latinos head to the polls.”
In addition to monthly phone banks, Telemundo-owned stations will introduce local voter-registration events and initiatives in markets across the nation leading up to Election Day.
The stations will continue to provide comprehensive cross-platform coverage of national and local news, issues, political candidates, and other campaign, policy and elections-related topics leading up to the elections.
NALEO Educational Fund’s toll-free hotline ordinarily operates year-round, Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET.
