WGN’s Daytime Chicago launched at 10 a.m. on Sept. 13, and has been the ratings winner in adults 24-54 since its premiere.
WGN’s Daytime Chicago, is another example of a locally produced program replacing a syndicated show that grew the ratings in the time period over last November. WGN is Nexstar’s independent station in Chicago.
Daytime Chicago launched at 10 a.m. on Sept. 13 and has been the ratings winner among adults 24-54 since its premiere, according to WGN. It succeeded the syndicated Rachel Ray in the time slot.
WXIN, Nexstar’s Fox affiliate in Indianapolis, also launched a lifestyle show in September, Indy Now, which grew the ratings 86% year-over-year in adults 25-54 in October, jumping to the No. 1 show in the time period. Previously, the syndicated Drew Barrymore aired in the time slot.
Seems to be a pattern emerging here.
Daytime Chicago’s hosts are Tonya Francisco and Amy Rutledge.
“Tonya and Amy are both lifelong Chicagoans who have really connected with our audience,” says Derek Haas, the show’s EP.
Haas says the show covers trends, food, local events and entertainment, and “the show’s success and marketing efforts center around producing good content that is fun and positive.”
The show launched with a ‘watch and win’ promotion for viewers to win tickets to Andrea Bocelli in concert. Close to 1,500 viewers entered.
In the month of November, the show was supported by an outdoor billboard campaign blanketing Chicago.
Daytime Chicago is bookended by WGN Morning News and WGN Midday News, and the station takes advantage of both those programs to cross-promote to Daytime Chicago.
“We’re excited that viewers have embraced the show,” Haas says. “We’ve only just begun.”
