Arizona’s Family Sports Launches On KAZF Flagstaff

Arizona’s Family Sports (AZFS) has debuted on full-power KAZF Flagstaff, Ariz., (over-the-air on ch. 32). Negotiations are underway to add the channel to additional cable and satellite providers in the market. Arizona’s Family Sports launched on KAZS Yuma, Ariz., last week making AZFS a statewide sports network..

Arizona’s Family Sports is already carried in Phoenix on KPHE-LD (OTA ch. 44 and Cox Cable 13) and in Tucson on OTA ch. 13.5 and Cox Cable 19. Arizona’s Family Sports is home to the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury, Phoenix Rising and Arizona Interscholastic Association’s High School Championships.

Viewers in northern Arizona will now be able to watch more than 70 Phoenix Suns games, including preseason games, this season on Arizona’s Family Sports. The first preseason game is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 8, at noon against the Detroit Pistons.

The station also carries Arizona’s Family News including the morning show Good Morning Arizona as well as Arizona’s Family News at 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10 p.m. It also carries the statewide weeknight sports show The Extra Point at 10:35 p.m.

In preparation for the launch of AZFS in Flagstaff, Arizona’s Family invested in creating a bureau in the city hiring multimedia journalist Mason Carroll and photojournalist Colin Vandewerf  to cover the area.

“With the launch of Arizona’s Family Sports, we knew it was important to also grow our presence in Northern Arizona. To do this we created our Northern Arizona bureau in collaboration with Northern Arizona University,” said Debbie Bush, Arizona’s Family VP-GM. “The existence of the bureau allows us to go beyond just covering the area during winter weather. Since the bureau was created earlier this summer, we have been able to shine a light on stories in the areas of housing, business and health in Flagstaff and the surrounding communities.”
