WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Basketball Bounces Syndies Once Again

Family Feud joined Judge Judy and Dr. Phil as the trio of first-run gainers in the week ending March 31. Much of the rest of syndication was held back by March Madness preemptions.

Steve Harvey on “Family Feud”

Three of the top first-run strips were able to rally in the session ending March 31 despite being hit with numerous preemptions from a second week of March Madness basketball.

Stronger than ever, Judge Judy, now in its 23rd season, improved 6% to a 6.7 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating and continued to clobber all challengers for an epic 38th consecutive week.

Making the feat even more all the more remarkable was that the monster hit court show easily led the syndication list even though it was in reruns on all five days.

Among the talkers, Dr. Phil aired two repeats but grew 8% to a 2.7 and finished first in the category for the 134th week in a row. However, Phil was the only talk show in positive territory.

Live with Kelly and Ryan gave back 5% to a 2.1, with guest co-hosts subbing for Kelly Ripa all week but still snared second place for a fifth straight frame. Rounding out talk’s big six were Ellen DeGeneres, which fell 11% to a new season low 1.7 with repeats; while Wendy Williams, Maury and Steve Harvey’s Steve were all steady at 1.5, 1.4 and 1.3 respectively.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

In addition, Steve strengthened 20% in the coveted women 25-54 age group.

Family Feud joined Judy and Phil to form the week’s trio of gainers, rising 3% to a 6.1 and outperforming the game shows for a second consecutive week.

Several magazines were plagued by preemptions for basketball and lost ground, but Access managed to avoid any decline, holding firm at a 1.3 to tie TMZ for third place. Access also rose 17% in the key women 25-54 demo.

Daily Mail TV stood fast at a 1.0, tying Extra, while at the head of the class Inside Edition was off 4% to a first-place 2.7.

Another heavy hitter moving up was Dateline, which overpowered the true crime genre for the 29th week in a row, vaulting 8% to a 1.3.
