Chauncy Glover Named Co-Anchor Of Weekday Evening Newscasts At KCBS, KCAL In Los Angeles

Emmy-winning journalist Chauncy Glover has been named a co-anchor of weekday evening newscasts at KCBS (CBS Los Angeles) and KCAL, the CBS-owned television stations in Los Angeles. The announcement was made by Joel Vilmenay, president and general manager of CBS News and Stations’ local businesses in Los Angeles.

Beginning Monday, Oct. 2, Glover will join Pat Harvey as co-anchor of KCAL News on CBS Los Angeles at 5:00 and 11:00 PM. In addition, he will co-anchor the 8:00 and 10:00 PM newscasts on KCAL. All CBS Los Angeles and KCAL newscasts — branded KCAL News — can be viewed live on the CBS News Los Angeles streaming channel.

Glover will be joining the KCAL News team after spending the past eight years as an anchor at KTRK, the ABC-owned station in Houston, per a KCAL press release. He started at KTRK as a weekend morning anchor, then moved to weekdays and helped launch a 3:00 PM newscast. Glover became a weeknight anchor in 2020.

Prior to KTRK, Glover worked as a reporter at WDIV in Detroit. While there, he founded the Chauncy Glover Project, a non-profit organization that provides hands-on mentoring focused on education, manhood and self-empowerment to Black and Latino male youth. Glover founded CGP after covering a breaking news story that led to him witnessing a high school student die on the streets of Detroit after the student was shot while attempting to rob his school’s basketball coach.

“As I have had the pleasure of getting to know Chauncy Glover, it quickly became obvious that he has the heart of someone who passionately embraces the KCAL News mission of making our communities better places to live,” Vilmenay said in the release. “Chauncy is already missed in Houston and fondly remembered in Detroit as well as the other communities where he has worked and lived. We look forward to having him join us and become part of the fabric of the Southland.”

“It is an honor to be able to continue to live out my childhood dreams by joining the KCAL News team,” Glover said. “I am well aware of what KCAL means to Southern California and I have long been an admirer of many of my new colleagues, including the legendary Pat Harvey – who is someone I hold in high regard as a journalist and shares my love of singing and making a joyful noise.”

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Glover has been a fan of TV news since childhood. His father built an anchor desk in the living room, where Chauncy would report family news every Sunday after church.

Glover’s background in television also includes working at WTVM in Columbus, Ga., and WJAX and WFOX in Jacksonville, Fla. He earned degrees in broadcast journalism, music and theater from Troy University in Troy, Ala.
