Jeopardy has combed through 8,000 episodes to find 20 of the most compelling — many of which haven’t been seen since their first airings — for a four-week retrospective series that starts on Monday.
For the first time, Jeopardy digs deep into its archives to highlight memorable contestants, exciting moments and unique tournaments from the show’s 36-year history, including the syndicated series premiere, which aired Sept. 10, 1984, with Alex Trebek as host (a network version of the show ran on NBC in the afternoon in 1964-1975 and again briefly in 1978-79 with Art Fleming hosting, according to David Schwartz, co-author of The Encyclopedia of TV Game Shows ).
“A lot has changed over the years — the set, the pace of the game … the mustache! — but the ability to play along is timeless.” said Mike Richards, the show’s executive producer.

Jeff,
Thanks, we also got an email from David Schwartz, co-author of The Encyclopedia of TV Game Shows.
I noticed an error in your story today about Jeopardy.
Jeopardy with Art Fleming originally aired on NBC daytime from 1964 to 1975 and again briefly in 1978-79.
A syndicated weekly version aired in 1974-75 again with Art Fleming.
Jeopardy never aired on ABC daytime.

The pre-syndication history is not right: the original Jeopardy!, hosted by Art Fleming and announced by Don Pardo, was on NBC, not ABC, starting in 1964 and running through the late 70s.
