GameDay Productions ‘Localizes’ Its Syndicated Shows

GameDay Productions, producers of Sports Stars of Tomorrow, Everyday Heroes and RaceWeek, is adding what it calls “locally relevant” content to its shows as part of a strategy to “help stations retain viewers amid competition from proliferating streaming options.”

Each episode of Sports Stars of Tomorrow, for example, is being structured to ensure eight or nine athletes are featured, covering a wide geographical span aimed at connecting with as many rival fan bases as possible.

“The battle is on to retain viewers on broadcast versus streaming platforms,” said Joe McCann, producer of Sports Stars of Tomorrow. Our team is thinking outside the box to help stations connect with their favorite college and pro teams.

“If we are to be successful in keeping viewers from shifting to streaming platforms for all their content viewing, we must help our local station partners fulfill their need for as much locally relevant content as possible,” said Kevin Weik, president of GameDay Productions.

Another GameDay series, Everyday Heroes is localizing by working with stations to include a special segment that stations can use to feature their own “Hometown Heroes.”

Cassie Yde, president of GameDay distributor The Television Syndication Company, says: “We talk to stations every day and they are searching for solutions that will help them be locally relevant.  It’s what differentiates them from the streaming platforms and contributes to why their viewers keep coming back.”
