WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Holzhauer’s Loss Is ‘Jeopardy’s Gain

The super-contestant’s final week drives the game show to the top of the syndication chart with a 7.9.

Holzhauer’s last hurrah was a winning one for Jeopardy as the strip rose 1% week to week to a 7.9, its highest live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating in a month, and easily topped the quiz and giveaway shows in the Memorial Day holiday session ending June 2.

Family Feud was a distant second at a 6.1, up 2%, with Wheel of Fortune third at a 5.9, down 3%.

The frame marked the final full week of episodes featuring star contestant James Holzhauer, who by that point had breezed through 32 straight games and racked in $2.46 million.

May sweep and full-season ratings champ Judge Judy went from originals to repeats for a good part of the week, and gave back 4% to a 6.5, which was still the second-best rating of any show in syndication.

Elsewhere in daytime, Dr. Phil was in reruns on all five days, declining 14% to a 2.4. However, that still led the talkers for the 143rd straight week.

Live with Kelly and Ryan beat Ellen DeGeneres for the 14th week in a row, despite dipping 5% to a 2.1 as Ellen eased 15% to a 1.7.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Next in line were Wendy Williams and Maury, both down 7% to a 1.3, and an encore week of Steve Harvey’s Steve at a steady 1.1. An unchanged Steve Wilkos tied Harvey’s repeats at a 1.1.

The top-tier magazines were lower with the exception of TMZ and Extra, which were both able to hold their ground at 1.2 and 1.0, respectively. Inside Edition led the field but slipped 4% to a 2.6.

Syndication’s biggest weekly increase was generated by Dateline, which delivered a 30% surge to a 1.3 and dominated the true crime genre for the 38th week in a row. The scripted Chicago P.D. also grew by double digits, climbing 11% to a 1.0.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Dr. Phil (0.9, -25% from the week before), tied with Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.9, -10%)
  • Maury (0.8, unchanged)
  • Ellen DeGeneres (0.7, -13%), tied with Wendy Williams (0.7, unchanged)
  • Steve Wilkos (0.6, unchanged)
  • Steve (0.5, unchanged)

In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA mean not applicable.
