WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

‘Jeopardy’ Bucks Syndies, Moves Up

Most of syndication was flat to down after running into heavy preemptions for the impeachment hearings in the session ending Nov. 17. But Jeopardy’s Tournament of Champions with the return of James Holzhauer posted a 7% increase to set a new season high.

Trivia titan James Holzhauer won Jeopardy’s Tournament of Champions in the session ending Nov.17 and propelled the game show 7% to a new season-high 7.2 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, its highest rating since the week ending June 2.

Meanwhile, most of syndication was flat to down after running into heavy preemptions for the impeachment hearings. For example, the only magazine moving up in households was Entertainment Tonight, which rose 4% to 2.8, matching its season high and tying sister show Inside Edition for the category lead. However, Access Hollywood grew 14% in the coveted women 25-54 age group and equaled its season high in the demo.

In daytime, Dr. Phil extended its winning streak among talk shows to 167 weeks, despite dipping 4% to a 2.5. Live with Kelly and Ryan remained at its season high 2.1 and took the genre’s silver medal for the 38th consecutive week.

Among court shows there was no contest as Nielsen behemoth Judge Judy brushed side preemptions and dominated the gavelers for the 1,208th straight session with a strong 6.8.

In rookie action, The Kelly Clarkson Show, which has already been green-lit for next season, and Tamron Hall continued to hold their ground despite having to compete with, or being preempted by, the hearings.

Clarkson clocked a steady 1.4 nationally and won its time periods in several top 10 markets including Los Angeles, Dallas and Atlanta.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Hall held its season-high 1.0 and finished first or second in four of the top 10 markets.

A third new talker, Mel Robbins, ran behind the top two with an unchanged 0.4.

Elsewhere, Jerry Springer’s Judge Jerry held tough at a 1.0 and continued to throw the book at the new court shows, while game show newbie 25 Words or Less lost 11% to a 0.8.

Also of note, the tryout for magazine hopeful Central Ave averaged a weighted 0.9 rating/2 share in its metered markets for week three of a five-week test run that began Nov. 4. That was down 18% from both its lead-in and year-ago time periods.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Dr. Phil (1.0, -9% from the week before), tied with Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.0, +11%)
  • Ellen DeGeneres (0.8, unchanged)
  • Wendy Williams (0.7, unchanged)
  • Kelly Clarkson (0.6, unchanged), tied with Maury (0.6, unchanged)
