WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

‘Jeopardy’ Turns Out To Be Syndication’s Answer

It tops both the game shows and the overall chart in the week ending Oct. 9, moving up 4% from the previous session.

Jeopardy had the most Nielsen buzz in the session ending Oct. 9, ticking up 4% from the week before to a 5.2 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, and taking undisputed control of the game show and overall syndication leads.

Family Feud, which had been tied with Jeopardy, fell 4% to a 4.8 and landed in a second-place dead heat with Wheel of Fortune, which inched up 2%.

The most impressive percentage gain among the games was garnered by ascending newcomer Pictionary starring Jerry O’Connell, which plowed ahead 25% to a 0.5 and matched its season high.

In daytime, shows were stymied by plenty of preemptions from baseball’s wild card playoffs and women’s international soccer telecasts on Oct 7.

That said, the three rookie talk shows all did well to stand fast and preserve their prior week’s scores with Sherri, staring Sherri Shepherd; Jennifer Hudson; and Karamo, staring Karamo Brown, at a 0.7, 0.6 and 0.3, respectively.

Veteran Live with Kelly and Ryan, which had raced to its highest ratings since last May in the previous round, remained the leader of the talk show pack for the 20th week in a row (including ties), despite dipping 6% to a 1.5, while still averaging 2.2 million total viewers each day.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Dr. Phil gave back 7% to a 1.3 in second place and Kelly Clarkson grabbed third with a steady 0.9 in households, while surging 33% in the key women 25-54 age group to snare a tie with Phil and Sherri for second place in the demo.

Drew Barrymore, in its new half-hour format, grew at the fastest pace from last year at this time, shooting up 60% in households to a 0.8.

The top talk shows for the week among women 25-54 were:

  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.6, unchanged from the week before)
  • Dr. Phil (0.4, -20%), tied with Kelly Clarkson (0.4, +33%) and Sherri (0.4, unchanged)

In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA means not applicable.
