WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

‘Judge Jerry’ Bucks Trend In Syndication

Despite airing repeats on all five days, the already renewed for year two courtroom jumped 13% to a 0.9 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, one of the few shows to make an upward move in the week ending Feb 23.

Jerry Springer’s freshman hit Judge Jerry stood out as one of the few category-leading, double-digit gainers in the challenging session ending Feb. 23, a week that was clouded by numerous preemptions for a weather-delayed Daytona 500 and included the sparsely viewed Presidents Day holiday.

Despite airing repeats on all five days, the already renewed for year two Judge Jerry jumped 13% to a 0.9 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating and trounced all rookie gavelers for the 24th week in a row, packing his court with more than 1.2 million daily viewers.

Of course, the supreme court show overall was Judge Judy, which scored a syndication-best 6.5 even though its primary run was not broadcast in five of the top 11 markets thanks to the NASCAR event. That made Judy, which has been the highest rated first-run show for more than a decade, this year’s household ratings champ for the 24th time in past 30 weeks.

Also on a roll in daytime was Dr. Phil, which held steady at a 2.6 to lead the talk shows for the 177th time in the past 181 weeks.

In access, the absence of the Academy Awards, which had bolstered magazines in the previous frame, caused a letdown in the category. In addition, some programs were preempted in various markets by the Nevada Democratic primary debate.

Bucking the downtrend, Access Hollywood, which held its ground at its Oscar-level 1.4, and Daily Mail TV, which shot up 33% in the coveted women 25-54 demo and hung tough at a 0.8 in households, were the only strips in the Big Six to avoid any declines.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Entertainment Tonight was the No.1 magazine for the seventh straight week, although it backed off 3% from its season high to a 2.9.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Maury (0.7, +17%)
  • Wendy Williams (0.6, unchanged)
