WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

‘Live With Kelly And Ryan’ Gives Thanks

With many shows able to exclude the very low-rated Thanksgiving and Black Friday from their averages, Live with Kelly and Ryan moved to the top of the talkers in the week ending Dec. 1 with a season-best 2.1.

Live with Kelly and Ryan was the No. 1 talker for the Thanksgiving holiday session ending Dec. 1, holding steady week to week at its season-high 2.1 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating. That marks the first time usually unbeatable Dr. Phil did not finish atop the talk shows in 169 weeks.

But it was close. Many shows were able to exclude the very low-rated Thanksgiving and Black Friday from their averages. Those shows that were not able to do so were saddled with abnormally low numbers for the week. Dr. Phil, which took a major ratings hit by having to include both lightly viewed holidays in its average, was only a tenth of a point off the lead, flipping 13% to a new season-low 2.0 to tie Ellen DeGeneres.

Ellen, which did not count the low-rated days in its average, rose 18% to a 2.0.

Elsewhere, game shows did not have much fun. Jeopardy slid 6% to a 5.9; Family Feud faded 10% to a new season-low 5.3; and Wheel of Fortune fell 17% to a new season-low 5.2.

In the midst of all this, Nielsen superstar Judge Judy unleashed a blowout 6.9 rating, vaulting 10% while beating everything in syndication by a wide margin and dominating the chart for the 17th time in the past 18 weeks with more than 9.7 million daily viewers.

In rookie talk show happenings, top newcomer The Kelly Clarkson Show, a firm go for next season, improved 8% toa 1.4 to lead all freshman entries of any type.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Tamron Hall, the season’s second highest new talker, remained at its series-best 1.0.

The Mel Robbins chatfest was well behind Clarkson and Hall with a unchanged 0.4.

Meanwhile magazine candidate Central Ave averaged a weighted 0.8 rating /2 share in its metered markets for its entire five-week test run that began Nov. 4. That was down 27% from both its lead-in and year-ago time periods.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Dr. Phil (0.9, unchanged from the week before), tied with Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.9, -10%) and Ellen DeGeneres (0.9, +13%)
  • Kelly Clarkson (0.6, unchanged), tied with Maury (0.6, unchanged) and Wendy Williams (0.6, unchanged)
  • Steve Wilkos (05, unchanged)

In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA mean not applicable.

So happy that Dr. Phil isn’t number 1 I hope he doesn’t get to number 1 again as his talk show isn’t very good. I hope Live With Kelly & Ryan remain number 1, Ellen & Kelly Clarkson get to number 1 as well.
