Lots Of Syndies Post Ratings Gains
Overcoming preemptions in some California markets for the fires, which also left millions without power, Dr. Phil hit a new season high for a second straight week in the session ending Nov. 3.
America’s most-watched doctor rose 4% from the previous appointment to a 2.6 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, its strongest showing in more than five months, and led the talkers for the 165th week in a row.
Live with Kelly and Ryan also heated up, climbing 5% to a 2.1, which matched its season high after getting a whopping 32% increase from the prior Thursday for its annual Halloween show. That gave the strip second-place honors for the 36th straight week.
Ellen DeGeneres and Wendy Williams also joined the growth party with 11% and 8% advances to new season-highs 2.0 and 1.4, respectively, ranking at third and fourth places in the genre.
Outperforming all of syndication in the household ratings for the 14th consecutive week was court show extraordinaire Judge Judy. The iconic gaveler, now in season 24, jumped 5% to a seven-week high 6.7, matching its best numbers of the season.
In magazine action, the recently renewed Extra, currently seen on large-market Fox stations, and Daily Mail TV scored the largest percentage gains. Extra surged 25% to a 1.0, matching its season high despite being hit with multiple preemptions for the final two World Series games and Thursday Night Football, all of which were on Fox.

Entertainment Tonight and Inside Edition continued to lead the group with both steady at a 2.8.
Meanwhile, mag newcomer Central Ave tallied a 0.8 rating /2 share weighted metered market average for week 1 of a five-week test that began Nov. 4. That was down 27% from both its lead-in and year-ago time periods.
Returning to the nationally cleared programs, top rookies The Kelly Clarkson Show and Tamron Hall both more than held their ground in their eighth frames.
Clarkson clocked a 1.4 and outdrew all newcomers with a crowd of nearly 1.9 million daily viewers, adding an average 72,000.
Hall remained a its season-high 1.0 with just under 1.3 million viewers, an increase of 60,000 each day, while the rating for Mel Robbins, the third member of the season’s freshman talk show class, was unchanged at a 0.4 with 524,000 daily viewers.
Among the new court shows, Jerry Springer’s Judge Jerry continued to rule with a first-place 0.9, Personal Injury Court and Protection Court followed 0.5 and 0.3, respectively.
The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:
- Dr. Phil (1.0, unchanged from the week before), tied with Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.0, +11%) and Ellen DeGeneres (1.0, +25%)
- Wendy Williams (0.7, +17%)
- Kelly Clarkson (0.6, unchanged), tied with Maury (0.6, unchanged)
- Steve Wilkos (0.5, unchanged)
