WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Many Syndies Sprout Growing Ratings

The session ending June 23 featured many shows registering gains from the previous week, some in the face of tough competition and preemptions from the Women’s World Cup.

In the face of a second week of heavy preemptions and stronger-than-usual competition from the Women’s World Cup, many of the top shows in syndication rallied in the last week of spring, the session ending June 23.

For example, among all top-tier strips, Judge Judy scored the biggest increase even though it aired where programs were hit the hardest by the soccer tournament. Judy, the No. 1 show of the season in the household ratings, surged 13% from the prior frame to a daytime-dominating 6.1 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating.

Among the talk shows, Dr. Phil grew 4% to a 2.4 and led the field for the 146th week in a row, despite being in reruns on all five days.

Live with Kelly and Ryan was the only talker besides Phil above a 2.0 rating, rebounding 5% to a 2.1 and taking second place for the 17th straight week.

Ellen DeGeneres was third, slipping 6% to a 1.7.

Meanwhile, the session ending June 28 was the final week of a three-week test run for the RuPaul gabfest, which averaged a weighted 0.4 rating/1 share in seven metered markets, down 33% from both its lead-in and year-ago time periods.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Back in the national ratings, the biggest movers among the magazines were TMZ and Extra, which jumped 22% and 11%, respectively.

Inside Edition, was unchanged at a 2.6, landing just ahead of Entertainment Tonight’s 2.5 with Access tying TMZ at a 1.1.

In addition, Daily Mail TV posted a 25% increase in the key women 25-54 demo.

The game show race featured Jeopardy dipping 2% to a 5.7 in its second full week following the loss of trivia whiz James Holzhauer and being topped for a second consecutive week by Family Feud, which rose 3% to a 6.3.

Elsewhere, Dateline lit up the true crime category, spiking 8% to a 1.3 and 20% among women 25-54, while finishing first for the 41st week in a row.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.9, +13% from the week before), tied with Dr. Phil (0.9, unchanged)
  • Ellen DeGeneres (0.7, unchanged), tied with Maury (0.7, unchanged)
  • Steve Wilkos (0.5, unchanged), tied with Steve (0.5, +25%)
