WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Syndie Ratings Are Bustin’ Out All Over

Shows in all of the first-run genres report weekly ratings gains in the first week of April with magazines particularly active.

Ratings for syndicated shows bloomed as April got underway in the session ending April 7. For example, among the top six bellwether magazines both Entertainment Tonight and Extra clocked double-digit increases.

ET jumped 12% to a 2.9 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, while Extra vaulted 10% to a 1.1.

Inside Edition also moved up, adding 7% to a 2.9 to tie ET after Edition host Deborah Norville announced her cancer surgery on April 1.

Access was also sharp, grabbing the group’s third-highest slot with a steady 1.3 and tying TMZ.

While Daily Mail TV, which averaged more than 1.3 million daily viewers and was one of the very few strips in syndication to maintain 100% of its year-ago ratings, was just renewed for year three.

Judge Judy, which was in reruns on four of the five days, still rose to a three-week high 6.8% and continued to trounce all shows in the household ratings for a record 39 weeks in a row.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Elsewhere in daytime, Dr. Phil, also partially in repeats, nevertheless remained chat champ for a 135th week with a steady 2.7.

Live with Kelly and Ryan raced ahead 10% to a 2.3 and took talk’s silver medal for a sixth consecutive frame.

Ellen DeGeneres was also lively as it went from reruns to original episodes and recovered 12% to a third-place 1.9.

On the down side, Wendy Williams, with encore episodes, had talk’s largest decline, dropping 27% to a 1.1 and falling behind both Maury and Steve.

Seeing sharply higher numbers were game show leaders Jeopardy, which climbed 9% to a 6.1, and Wheel of Fortune, which accelerated 11% to a 6.1.

Family fell 2% to a 6.0 and was a close third in the quiz genre.

On the true crime beat, Dateline delivered a 20% demo increase in the coveted women 25-54 age group and led the category for the 30th week in a row.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Dr. Phil (1.1, unchanged from the week before)
  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.0, +11%)
  • Ellen DeGeneres (0.8, +14%), tied with Maury (0.8, +14%)
  • Wendy Williams (0.6, -25%), tied with Steve Wilkos (0.6, +20%)

In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA mean not applicable.
