WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Ratings Christmas Present For ‘Kelly And Ryan’

Despite being in repeats on two of the five days and dodging widespread preemptions for news of the verdict in the Kim Potter trial and the president’s remarks on COVID-19, Kelly and Ryan rolled to its strongest performance in seven months and was the only syndicated program to notch a new high.

Live with Kelly and Ryan was one of the few shows scoring an increase in the  Christmas-week session ending Dec. 26. Live leapt to the top of the talkers with a 6% surge to a new season high 1.8 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating.

Despite being in repeats on two of the five days and dodging widespread preemptions for news of the verdict in the Kim Potter trial and the president’s remarks on COVID-19, Kelly and Ryan rolled to its strongest performance since the week ending May 23 and was the only syndicated program to notch a new high. The morning mainstay has now been first or tied for first 25 times in the past 33 weeks.

Dr. Phil, which had been tied at the top the week before, was almost completely in repeats, receding 12% to a second-place 1.5.

Of note, sophomore Drew Barrymore had the best year-over-year improvement of any talker in the top 10, growing 25% from the same week one year ago.

In the game show race, Family Feud fell 6% to a 5.1, but still tied Jeopardy for first place in the category and syndication overall. The former home of Alex Trebek eroded 11% to a 5.1.

All of the magazines moved lower except Extra and TMZ. Extra shrugged off numerous football preemptions to preserve its season-high 0.6 and retain 100% of its year-ago ratings, while TMZ was steady at a 0.7.
