WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

A Lot Of Upward Movers In Syndie Ratings

Almost all of the first-run genres featured multiple shows reporting gains in the week ending Oct. 15.

Dr. Phil was on fire in the session ending Oct. 15, surging 13% to its highest rating in seven months and torching the talkers for the 58th week in a row. Phil was more than a full point ahead of any other talk show with a 3.5 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, and up 6% from last year.

The show in the genre with the biggest annual increase was Crime Watch Daily, which shot up 11% for both the week and the year to a 1.0.

Other notable gainers in talk included Steve Harvey’s Steve, which hit its highest rating in 16 weeks, strengthening 8% to a 1.4 and tying Wendy Williams (which rose 8% to a 1.4) and Harry, which leaped 13% to a 0.9.

Turning to the newest nationally rated strips in first run, Daily Mail TV remained the one to beat for the fourth straight week, leading all newcomers with a first-place 1.0.

Page Six TV was the main challenger, drawing more than 1 million daily viewers with a 0.7 in households and a 0.5 among women 25-54, which tied Daily Mail for first place in the key demo.

For the most recent week, Page Six was especially hot in top market New York, where it was up 35% over what Inside Edition did last year among women 25-54 on WNYW at noon.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Further back in the rookie race, Funny You Should Ask was up 25% to a 0.5 national rating with a 0.2 in the demo, while Pickler & Ben was unchanged at a 0.3 in households and grew to a 0.2 among women 25-54.

Among magazines, Access Hollywood scored the best percentage increase, growing 8% to a 1.4, its highest rating in 25 weeks. Entertainment Tonight led the category with a steady 3.0.

At the top of the chart, Family Feud added to a 6.7; usual leader Judge Judy advanced 2% to a 6.6; and Jeopardy was a close third, jumping 8% to a 6.4. That was Jeopardy’s highest rating since the week of March 6 as New York City bartender Austin Rogers’ 12-show winning streak came to an end.

Another big gainer was Hot Bench, which improved 14% — the most of any first-run strip in the top 10 — to a 2.4.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Dr. Phil (1.4, +8% from the week before)
  • Ellen DeGeneres (1.1, +10%)
  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.0, -9%)
  • Maury (0.9, -10%), tied with Wendy Williams (0.9, unchanged)
  • Steve Wilkos (0.8, unchanged)

In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA mean not applicable.
