ABC O&Os Up Carpenter To SVP Digital Media

The news director of ABC-owned WPVI Philadelphia, Carla Carpenter, will now lead development and implementation of station group strategies and initiatives involving the Internet, new digital channels, mobile and other evolving digital media for ABC’s eight owned stations.

Carla Carpenter, VP-news director at ABC-owned WPVI Philadelphia, has been promoted to SVP, digital media, for the ABC Owned Television Stations Group. The announcement, effective immediately, was made Monday by Rebecca Campbell, president of the ABC Owned Television Stations Group, to whom Carpenter now reports.

Carpenter joined WPVI as VP-news director in 1997. She has also overseen the news and information content of WPVI’s website 6abc.com, and she has been instrumental in the launch of various multi-platform services, including Action News InterAction and Saving With 6abc.

In her new post, Carpenter will be responsible for the continuing development and implementation of station group strategies and initiatives involving the Internet, new digital channels, mobile and other evolving digital media. She will be involved with local management of the eight ABC-owned stations to support the expansion of digital content geared to their individual markets. Carpenter will also work closely with senior digital media executives across the Disney/ABC Television Group to tap content synergies across DATG’s numerous digital platforms.

Prior to joining WPVI 14 years ago, Carpenter was assistant news director at ABC-owned WLS Chicago, assistant news director and executive producer for WJBK Detroit and executive producer at KSDK St. Louis.

She holds a Master of Arts degree in strategic communication and leadership from Seton Hall University and a Bachelor of Science in radio-television-film from the University of Texas at Austin.
