WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

As Summer Heats Up, So Does ‘Dr. Phil’

The talk leader was one of only a few first-run shows to show a ratings gain in the week ending June 25, and it also was up 20% from this time last year.

Dr. Phil was the hot show as summer officially began in the session ending June 25. In a week where almost the entire category remained flat, Phil was the top talker for the 42nd consecutive frame, surging 15% to a 3.0 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen, its biggest rating since the May sweep.

In addition, despite being in repeats on all five days, Phil’s ratings bloomed 20% from last year, which was the greatest annual increase of anything in talk.

Second place Live with Kelly and Ryan, which like many programs on the genre, was on hiatus, aired only taped and repacked shows, slipping 5% to a new season-low 2.0. However, Live still finished ahead of Ellen DeGeneres for the fourth week in a row as Ellen remained at its season-low 1.7 in third place with encore episodes.

Of note, reruns of sophomore true crime series Crime Watch Daily had the third best growth in the group over last year, improving 13% to a 0.9 and holding steady week to week.

And freshman Harry, which was also in reruns, scored the second-largest weekly increase in talk, jumping 13% to a 0.9.

Elsewhere in daytime, Judge Judy trounced the court shows as usual, growing 3% to a 6.5 even though it was entirely in reruns. Judy was also the top-rated show in syndication overall for the 12th time in 13 weeks.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Hot Bench was the No. 2 gaveler, advancing 10% with mostly repeats to a 2.2 and ranking as the third-highest strip in daytime behind only Judy and Phil.

Family Feud won the game show race for the 61st week, climbing 8% to a 6.4.
