CMG Names Michelle Harper VP Of Sales

She moves from the group’s Charlotte, N.C., ABC affiliate where she was general sales manager to work with all the Cox Media Group newspaper, radio and TV brands.

Cox Media Group today named media veteran Michelle Harper as its new VP of sales, effective Sept. 21. She succeeds Paul Curran, who was named VP-GM of WFTV Orlando earlier this summer.

In her new role, Harper, who was previously general sales manager of WSOC Charlotte, N.C., and her team will work with all CMG newspaper, radio and TV brands to develop and execute strategic sales programs and training.

Harper joined CMG as the GSM for WAXN Charlotte in 2011. She began her media career at WTVD Raleigh-Durham, N.C., in 1985. She discovered her passion for broadcast sales and started her TV sales career in 1989 as a local account executive at WJZY Charlotte, and then worked at WSOC in the same capacity from 1993 to 1995 before moving to the national side of sales working at Seltel in Atlanta.

Harper’s other career highlights include working in Greensboro, N.C. at WXLV-WUPN; WTWB; and then WTVD.

Harper is a 1985 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill with a BA in radio, tv and motion pictures.

I worked with Michelle many years ago (sorry Michelle!) and I knew then she was bound for greatness.

I worked for one of the other ABC O&Os & spoke to Michelle frequently especially during political season…she is very bright, knowledgeable in dealing with both local and national sales. I too knew she would achieve big success in her career. Congrats on your promotion!
