WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Double-Digit Week For ‘Wendy Williams’

The talker was up 27% from the prior session, a bright spot in the week ending April 16 in which most first-run shows were flat, down or up just slightly.

Syndicated shows were generally lower across the board in the session ending April 16 thanks to sharply lower spring viewing levels and daytime preemptions from the big April 12 joint press conference held by President Trump and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

One group bucking the general softness was the court shows led by Judge Judy, which clocked a lofty 6.5 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating and topped all syndicated strips for the third week in a row.

Although Judy was in reruns for several days, the show saw only a minor 3% dip from the prior week and still almost tripled the next nearest gaveler.

Hot Bench was in repeats all week but was still the No. 2 courtroom, growing 5% to a 2.2 and finishing well ahead of third-place People’s Court, which gained 7% to a 1.6.

Among talk shows, Dr. Phil extended its winning streak to 32 weeks despite easing 9% to a 3.0.

Live with Kelly took second place with a steady 2.2, and for the ninth straight week outperformed closest rival Ellen DeGeneres, which declined 5% to a 2.0.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Of note, Wendy Williams returned to originals after two weeks of reruns and rose 27% to a sixth-place 1.4.

On the down side, Dr. Oz tied its lowest rating ever, dropping 8% for the week and 21% from last year, to a 10th-place 1.1.

Among access game shows, while nothing went up, leader Family Feud remained at a 6.4 and finished second to overall syndication champ Judge Judy.

Wheel of Fortune fell 7% to a 5.7, while Jeopardy sagged 7% to a 5.5.

Elsewhere, four of the top 5 magazines gave ground with Entertainment Tonight easing 6% to a 2.9, but still leading the field for the 37th consecutive week.

The show with the genre’s greatest loss was Access Hollywood, which tumbled 14% to a new season low 1.2.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Dr. Phil (1.4, unchanged from the week before)
  • Live with Kelly (1.0, unchanged)
  • Wendy Williams (0.9, +29%), tied with Ellen DeGeneres (0.9, -10%) and Maury (0.9, -10%) and Steve Wilkos (0.9, unchanged)

In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA mean not applicable.
