WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Few Syndies Advance In First Week Of Aug.

Only two talkers, two games and one magazine show report ratings gains from the previous session.

As the dog days of August began in the sluggish session ending Aug. 6, leader Entertainment Tonight was the only one of the eight magazine shows moving up.

ET highlighted the Angelina Jolie Vanity Fair controversy over her treatment of Cambodian children in her latest film and grew 4% from the week before to a 2.7 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, matching its strongest numbers since June 26.

All the other mags were flat week to week. Compared to last year, ET again was the sole magazine in the plus column, improving 4%.

In daytime, Dr. Phil rolled over the talk shows for the 48th consecutive frame despite being in reruns all week. Phil held steady at a first-place 2.8 and grew 17% from last year, which was the greatest annual increase of any talker in the top 10.

Second-place Live with Kelly and Ryan also had a good week, climbing 5% to a 2.0.

Ellen DeGeneres recovered 7% to a third-place 1.6, breaking a tie with Maury, which dropped to fourth, losing 7% to a 1.4.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Back in access, Family Feud added 2% to a 6.2 and blew away the game shows for the 67th straight week. Wheel of Fortune fell 2% to a 5.4 and Jeopardy sank 7% to a 5.1, matching its season low.

At the top of the overall chart, Judge Judy eased 3% to a 6.2 with a week of repeats and finished in a dead heat with Family Feud. This marks the ninth week in a row in which Judy was No. 1 or tied for No. 1 in syndication.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Dr. Phil (1.1, unchanged from the week before)
  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.9, unchanged)
  • Maury (0.8, -11%), tied with Ellen DeGeneres (0.8, +14%)
  • Steve Wilkos (0.7, unchanged)
