WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Genre Leaders Maintain Their Status Quo

The week ending Oct. 16 saw little movement around the various genres’ No. 1 shows. Further down, however, Extra posted a new season high in the magazines; Ellen, Hot Bench and Family Feud each rose 5%; while Last Man Standing climbed 7% in the off-net chart.

Extra, which was the only magazine to hit a new season high, came up big in the session ending Oct. 16, scoring its strongest rating since the May sweep. Extra also enjoyed the largest weekly increase in the magazine category, improving 8% to a 1.4 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, with extensive coverage of the fallout from Donald Trump’s 2005 hot mic video.

Entertainment Tonight topped the magazines for the 11th consecutive week, holding steady at a 3.2, and growing 7% from last year.

In daytime, Dr. Phil finished first in talk for the sixth straight week and widened its lead on the field, climbing 3% for the week and 10% from last year to a 3.3. Phil also overwhelmed the talkers among women 25-54 with a 1.6 in the key demo.

Live with Kelly remained in firm possession of second place, hold steady at a 2.4 household rating.

Judge Judy was far in front of the court shows and took first place among syndication overall for the 11th week in a row with a stable 6.7.

Hot Bench was the second-highest gaveler, gaining 5% for both the week and the year to a 2.3.

Family Feud rose 5% to a new season high 6.6 and continued to lead the game shows. Wheel of Fortune slipped 2% to a 5.9; Jeopardy was unchanged at a 5.7; and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire declined 6% to a 1.5.

In off-net, freshman Last Man Standing posted a 1.6 household rating, up 7% from a week earlier and making it the highest rated new show among both off-net and first run.
