Good Week For ‘Live,’ Game Shows

Live with Kelly and Ryan tops Megyn Kelly Today for the second week in a row. In access, Family Feud rose 3% and increased its lead among game shows with Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune moved up 2% and 4%, respectively to finish tied for second place in the genre.

Live with Kelly and Ryan significantly widened its lead over rival Megyn Kelly Today in the session ending Oct. 8, topping Megyn’s second week by 38% and drawing 650,000 more households per day on average.

Megyn declined 11% from its first week to a 1.6 live-plus-same day national Nielsen rating with about 1.94 million households. Over the same period, Live grew 5% to a 2.2 rating and 2.59 million daily households.

In addition, Live was the only one of the 15 syndicated talk shows in the plus column, moving up to a 2.2 to tie an unchanged Ellen DeGeneres for second place behind leader Dr. Phil.

Phil topped the talkers for the 57th week in a row despite being one of many shows preempted for news coverage of the Las Vegas shooting and pulling back 9% to a 3.1.

Also of note in talk, Steve Harvey’s new Steve moved into the top five, avoiding declines with a steady 1.3 and scoring year-to-year gains of 23% in Philadelphia, 30% in Tulsa and 64% in Fort Myers, Fla.

Among the season’s first-run newcomers, leader Daily Mail TV in its third outing held on to its prior week’s double-digit ratings gain with a clear first-place 1.0, and more than 1.3 million daily viewers.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Page Six TV was also solid, maintaining 100% of its previous tally with a 0.7 in households and snagging a 0.5 among women 25-54, which tied Daily Mail in the key demo.

Moreover, Page Six outperformed its year-ago time period averages in numerous major markets, including by 25% in Chicago where it replaced TMZ; by 40% in Washington; and by 100% in San Francisco for the week ending Oct. 15.

Among the other nationally rated rookies in the session ending Oct. 8, Funny You Should Ask was unchanged at a 0.4 rating with a 0.2 in the demo; while Pickler & Ben was unchanged at a 0.3 in households with a 0.1 among women 25-54.

In access, Family Feud rose 3% to a 6.2 and increased its lead among game shows. Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune finished in a dead heat at a 5.9, inching up 2% and 4%, respectively.

Judge Judy was the No. 1 show in syndication overall for the eighth week in row despite a 6% pullback to a still lofty 6.5.

  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.1, +10%)
  • Maury (1.0, +11%), tied with Ellen DeGeneres (1.0, -9%)

  • Steve Wilkos (0.8, +14%)
