WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

It Was Happy Holidays For ‘Kelly And Ryan’

The syndie duo tied Dr. Phil for first place among the chat fests in the week ending Dec. 31 as most talkers posted gains.

Live with Kelly and Ryan came up big in the holiday session ending Dec. 31, scoring its best rating since Ryan Seacrest joined the program. Live unwrapped a new season high 2.6 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, surging 13% from the week before and tying usual leader Dr. Phil for first place in talk.

That was not an easy task, as no show has been able to tie Phil since the summer of 2016. Phil, which was the only talk show in the top 10 to include the very low-rated Christmas Day in its average, was in reruns all week and got penalized with massive preemptions from college bowl games, slipping 13% to a new season-low 2.6.

Ellen DeGeneres also sank to a new season low, losing 5% to a third-place 2.0.

However, most other talkers had something positive to celebrate.

  • Maury rebounded 14% to new season-high 1.6.
  • Rachael Ray rallied 8% to a new season-high 1.4, tying the red-hot Steve, which maintained its season-high 1.4 for a 10th straight week.
  • Conflict talkers Jerry Springer and Steve Wilkos both advanced 8% to a season-high 1.3.
  • Wendy Williams and Dr. Oz both jumped 9% to a 1.2.
  • True crime Crime Watch Daily held steady for a fourth consecutive week at its season-high 1.0.

Also notable was the season’s first-run rookie champ Daily Mail TV, which led the newcomers for the 15th week in a row with a steady 1.0, attracting more than 1.4 million daily viewers.

Elsewhere, Family Feud widened its margin over the game shows with a 3% boost to a 6.8, while Jeopardy was next at a 6.0, down 8%.
