Among the 10 shows setting records in the week ending Jan. 21 was No. 1 newcomer Daily Mail TV, which posted a 9% gain. The Doctors and Maury each rose 13%.
Many First-Run Strips Deliver Season Highs
Daily Mail TV, the top-rated first-run freshman strip celebrated the Martin Luther King holiday session with its best ratings ever. Already renewed for a second season, it delivered a new series-high 1.2 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, up 9% from the week before in the frame ending Jan 21.
Fellow newcomer Page Six TV, which has also earned a year-two renewal, remained at its series record 0.8 and outperformed the next two new entries by 60% and 167%, respectively.
Among all veterans, Dr. Phil clocked the largest increase over last year, growing 17% to a 3.5. Week to week, Phil eased 3% but easily led the talkers for the 72nd week in a row (including one tie).
Ellen DeGeneres was unchanged at a 2.7, while Live with Kelly and Ryan jumped 8% to a 2.6. Both Ellen and Live matched their season-high marks and both were up from last year — by 8% and 4%, respectively.
Three other shows in the top five slots moved up week to week:
- Maury added 13% to a new season high 1.7.
- Steve strengthened 7% to a 1.5, equaling the show’s best numbers yet.
- Wendy Williams climbed 7% to a 1.5, tying Steve.
In magazine action, Inside Edition, Entertainment Tonight and Access all hit new season highs.
- Inside Edition spiked 6% to a 3.6.
- Entertainment Tonight advanced 3% to a 3.5.
- Access had the largest increase in the category, jumping 7% to a 1.6 and hitting a 69-week high in the key women 25-54 demo.
Judge Judy dipped 3% to a still unbeatable 7.6 and was syndication’s No. 1 show overall for the 21st time in the past 23 weeks (with one tie.)
Family Feud climbed 1% to a 7.4 and was the overall runner-up to Judy while topping the game shows for the eighth straight week.
The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:
- Dr. Phil (1.6, +7% from the week before)
- Ellen DeGeneres (1.4, +8%)
- Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.2, +9%)
- Maury (1.1, unchanged)
- Wendy Williams (1.0, +11%)
- Steve (0.8, +14%), tied with Steve Wilkos (0.8, unchanged)
