SAN Solutions Inc. is a manufacturer and integrator of high-performance storage and application solutions for mission-critical media infrastructures.

ArtiSAN Storage Platform—The ArtiSAN Storage Platform consists of two product lines: the ArtiSAN 9400 series designed for high-performance film and video applications and the ArtiSAN 5400 series ideal for high capacity nearline media storage.

The ArtiSAN 9400 series supports multiple streams of 2K/4K media as well as all HD video streams including 3G and 3D applications. The ArtiSAN 9400 is offered in both a 2 RU, 12 bay 3.5-inch drive enclosure form factor and a 2 RU, 24 bay 2.5-inch drive enclosure form factor. The platform includes SAN Solutions’ dual active RAID controllers, featuring the highest performance hard disk and solid state drives available today.

Designed for high-capacity requirements, the ArtiSAN 5400 storage platform holds an impressive 192TB of 2K/4K content as well as all types of video media including HD and 3D material. The platform is offered in a 2 RU, 12 bay 3.5-inch drive enclosure form factor and comes standard with SAN Solutions’ dual active RAID controller. Point in time volume images, remote volume mirroring, and replication services are optional features in this product series, enabling an effective disaster recovery storage implementation.

ArtiSAN Application Platform—The ArtiSAN Application Platform includes a family of products that enable and optimize file-based workflows.

New for the 2011 NAB show and on display at the SAN Solutions booth will be two versions of the ArtiSAN DDR, one designed specifically for broadcast workflows and the other for post-production. The ArtiSAN DDR for broadcast is an ingest/playback server that supports a broad range of formats in SD and HD. The high-end post-production model offers high resolution, direct capture, and playback for high-end post-production facilities supporting formats in SD, HD and 2K. Both offerings support multiple machine-control standards and are ideal for environments encountered in today’s broadcast and post-production markets. The ArtiSAN DDR interfaces with a facility’s existing centralized storage and allows for file sharing directly with editorial workstations.

Also making its debut at the 2011 Show is the ArtiSAN Content Archive. The ArtiSAN Content Archive allows facilities to free up valuable production storage by providing a high-capacity, affordable storage tier that is both easy to manage and maintain. The Content Archive features an ingest cache and is capable of archiving to both disk and/or tape tiers to meet the stringent requirements of broadcast compliance. The platform can be also configured to work in the highest resolution film and post-production archiving environments where maintaining and preserving valuable assets is critical.

Also part of the ArtiSAN Application Platform is the ArtiSAN Metadata Controller (MDC), a cost-effective alternative to the end-of-life Apple Xserve and ideal for use in Xsan environments. The MDC utilizes the Red Hat Enterprise Level operating system and SSD technology for mirrored system disks. The MDC features redundant power supplies and IPMI monitoring.

SAN Solutions also offers comprehensive Professional Services to help operations incorporate new MDC platforms into existing Xsan environments. These services include MDC conversion using existing storage infrastructure, integration of additional storage infrastructure, data migration capability (including temporary storage), storage sub-system performance optimization, hands-on training for end-users, and continued site support post-implementation.
