New Ex. Dir. At TV Music License Committee
Janet E. McHugh, a broadcast attorney and business executive, has been selected to be executive director of the Television Music License Committee. She succeeds Willard Hoyt, who retired as executive director in September after 14 years.
McHugh comes to the TMLC from Sinclair Broadcast Group where she had counseled stations and managed legal functions in key areas including music rights since 2009.
Prior to that she had been in private law practice and an executive in the legal departments of two finance and energy companies.
“We are thrilled to have a person of Janet’s skills, commitment and breadth of experience as our new executive director,” said Charles Sennet, TMLC chairman. “Janet has business acumen, a lawyer’s analytical sense and knows the local television business from daily experience. We look forward to her leadership as the Committee navigates the changing landscape of music licensing” dealing with the three major music performing rights organizations, Congress and the Copyright Office.
McHugh will be based at the committee’s office in the Washington suburb of Bethesda, Md.
She is a graduate of Clemson University and Duke University School of Law. She is also chair of the Maryland State Ethics Commission.
