WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Strong Start For Newcomer ‘Harry’

NBCU’s freshman talker scored the most impressive talk debut in three years, tying the long-running Maury at a 1.4 in the week ending Sept. 18. At the top of the overall syndication chart for the seventh straight week, Judge Judy got its 21st season underway, improving 3% to a 7.0 and climbing 6% from last year’s bow.

Top talker Dr. Phil started its 15th season with a bang in the session ending Sept. 18, soaring 41% from the prior frame 3.8 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, its strongest performance since November of 2014.

The season opener, which featured an exclusive interview with JonBenet Ramsey’s brother, was also up 23% from last season’s premiere week and led the talk shows by a wide margin. Among women 25-54, Phil was again No. 1 in talk, surging 42% from the week before to a 1.7 in the key demo.

Live with Kelly was the clear second in households with a solid 2.5, followed by Ellen DeGeneres at a 2.3 and Steve Harvey at a 1.5.

Harry, the season’s only nationally cleared newcomer, scored the most impressive talk debut in three years with ratings 40% higher than The Real’s first week in 2014. And compared to the already established talkers, Harry tied the long-running Maury at a 1.4.

Also making a big impact was the second-season premiere of Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen, which jumped 13% from its launch week last year to a 0.9 and almost 1.3 million daily viewers. That was the second biggest annual increase in the genre after only Dr. Phil.

In access, Entertainment Tonight led the magazines for the seventh consecutive session, advancing 4% to a first-place 2.9. Extra posted the most growth in the category, rising 9% to a 1.2.
