WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Strong Week Among The Magazine Shows

Entertainment Tonight matched its season high to lead the category in the first full week of the sweep, with TMZ rising 23%, Extra climbing 15% and Dish Nation up 14%. In off-net, newcomer Last Man Standing climbed 13% to a new season high 1.7, landing it in a three-way tie for fifth in the genre.

Three of the top four entertainment magazines made ratings headlines in the session ending Nov. 6, which included the first full week of the November sweep (Oct. 27-Nov. 23).

Entertainment Tonight matched its season high and led the entire magazine category for the 14th straight week with a 3% advance to a 3.4 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating.

TMZ rebounded 23% from its worst number of the year in the prior frame to a 1.6.

Extra surged 15% to a new season high 1.5, its best performance in 34 weeks, and finished ahead of Access Hollywood for the first time since November of 2014. Extra’s big showing was driven by its one-on-one Donald Trump interview Nov.2, which sent ratings up 77% from the prior week.

On the other hand, Access Hollywood declined 7% to a new season low 1.3. However, further down the chart Dish Nation rose 14% to a 0.8.

Judge Judy was the highest rated court show for a milestone 1,050th consecutive week — or every week for more than the past 20 years — with a 4% gain to a new season high 7.3. In addition, Judy was the No. 1 strip in syndication overall for the 14th week in a row.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Judy’s popularity also gave a big boost to her companion court show when she and husband Judge Jerry Sheindlin made an appearance on Hot Bench on Oct. 31 and ratings for that strip jumped 4% to a new season high 2.5, the third highest rating of any daytime show in syndication.

Dr. Phil easily topped the talkers among all key demos and led the chat pack in households for the ninth straight session, strengthening 3% for the week and 9% for the year to a 3.6, the show’s second biggest rating of the season.

Other talk shows moving up were Ellen DeGeneres, which added 4% to a 2.4 and The Doctors, which scored the strongest increase in the group, improving 13% to a six-week high 0.9.

In off-net, newcomer Last Man Standing climbed 13% to a new season high 1.7, tying Two Broke Girls, which gained 6% to a 1.7, and Mike and Molly, which slipped 6% to a 1.7, for fifth place among sitcoms.

Big Bang Theory was far in front with a 4.9, up 4%.

  • Live with Kelly (1.2, unchanged), tied with Ellen DeGeneres (1.2, unchanged)
