In the Memorial Day week, the only first-run show to post a gain from the previous session was Family Feud, which gained 2% to a 6.3.
Syndication Ratings Take A Vacation
As expected, syndication went into its usual post-sweep swoon in the Memorial Day session ending June 4, with the majority of strips in reruns and flirting with new season-low ratings.
In daytime, Dr. Phil went into repeats on all five days and gave back 18% to a new season-low 2.7, but that was still good enough to lead the talk shows easily for the 39th week in a row. In addition, Phil was one of the few talkers ahead of last year at this time, advancing 4%.
The newly rechristened Live with Kelly and Ryan rushed into sole possession of second place for the first time since the week of May 8, opening up a wide margin over challenger Ellen DeGeneres, despite a post-sweep easing of 5% to a 2.1. Ellen was a distant third dropping to a new season-low 1.8.
Maury also took a dive, skidding 7% to a new season-low 1.4, and falling into a tie with Wendy Williams, which was steady at a 1.4 and up 8% from last year.
Further back, Steve Harvey hit a new season low, slumping 8% to a 1.2.
Also in uncharted waters was Dr. Oz, which tumbled to its lowest rating in eight years, down 9% for the week and off 17% from last year to a 1.0.
Compared to last year, true-crime series Crime Watch Daily had the best performance of all 13 shows in the category, improving 13% to a 0.9.
Elsewhere in daytime, Judge Judy aired repeats on four of the five days and dipped 10% to a 6.2, but dominated the courts for the 1,080th consecutive week, going back to 1996.
In access, Family Feud edged ahead 2% to a 6.3, narrowly topping all syndicated shows for the first time since mid-March and galloping by the game show for the 58th straight frame.
Wheel of Fortune found the road rocky, falling 9% to a new season-low 5.3 and tying Jeopardy, which faded 5% to a 5.3.
The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:
- Dr. Phil (1.1, -21% from the week before)
- Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.9, -10%), tied with Maury (0.9, -10%) and Wendy Williams (0.9, unchanged)
- Ellen DeGeneres (0.8, -27%)
In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA mean not applicable.
