WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Syndies Start The New Year With A Bang

All the first-run genres feature big gainers in the first week of January, topped by Ellen (up 30% from the previous frame), Dr. Phil (up 23%) and Entertainment Tonight (up 22%).

The first week of 2018 was a hot one for Dr. Phil, which dominated the talk show field despite being in reruns on two of the five days. After being tied for the first time in over a year the week before, Phil surged 23% week to week to a first-place 3.2 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating.

Other talkers enjoying a powerful week were:

  • Ellen DeGeneres, which returned to original episodes after two weeks of repeats, rebounding 30% to a second-place 2.6.
  • Steve, the only one of the 15 talk shows climbing to a new season high, spiking 7% to a series-best 1.5 and more than 10 million weekly viewers. Steve also surged 33% to a show-record 0.8 in the key women 25-54 demo.

Elsewhere in daytime, star performers included courtroom queen Judge Judy, which shot up 9% to a lofty 7.4 even though it was partially in reruns, and Judy creation Hot Bench, which rose 9 to a six-week high 2.5.

The top newcomer to first run was Daily Mail TV, which grew 10% to a 1.1 and was renewed for year two. Mail also matched its season high and widened its lead over the season’s rookie crop.

Page Six TV, which aired only repacked episodes all week, still held steady at a 0.7, gaining 25% among women 25-54 and was renewed for a second season as expected.

In access, Family Feud had a monster week, rallying 10 to a new season-high 7.5, which ruled the games, and by a narrow margin topped all syndicated shows.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

On the magazine rack, the biggest movers were Entertainment Tonight, which raced ahead 22% to a 3.3, tying sister show Inside Edition for first place, and Access, which jumped 17% to a 1.4.
