WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Syndies Tread Water Approaching Labor Day

Many shows were flat in the week ending Sept. 4. Phil and Kelly tie atop the talkers. Judy is No 1 in courts and all of syndication. Family Feud and Entertainment Tonight lead their genres.

National ratings were quite stable in the Labor Day weekend session ending Sept. 4. Dr. Phil and Live with Kelly tied for top honors in talk, with both scoring a 2.3 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, and both showing only previously aired material. Among women 25-54, Live was tops in talk with a 1.1 in the key demo, followed by Phil at a 1.0.

Meanwhile, Phil opened its 15th season on Sept. 12 with an eye-popping 4.1 rating/12 share primary run metered market average, up 116% from its lead-in, up 64% from its year-ago time periods and 37% ahead of its 2015 season premiere.

The show, which featured the brother of JonBenet Ramsey breaking his 20-year silence, won its time period in 44 metered markets, including New York where it surged 110% over last year at this time to a first-place 4.2 rating/14 share at 3 p.m. on WCBS. Part 2 of the interview on Tuesday did just as well, clocking an identical 4.1 rating/12 share in the 56 metered markets.

In other overnight ratings news, Harry, the only new first-run strip with full national coverage, declined on Day 2 to a 1.0/3 as its lead-in dropped sharply. Harry’s second day improved in some key markets, including a 200% increase in Chicago and its 1.2/3 two-day average is still 9% ahead of year-ago time periods and even with its lead-in.

Back on the weekly chart, The Doctors had the strongest increase of any talker in the national ratings, improving 13% to a four-week high 0.9 despite being in reruns on all five days.

Crime Watch Daily, also in repeats, continued to dominate the first-run rookies, holding firm at a 0.8.
