UK Govt. Won’t Block Comcast-Sky Deal

Culture Secretary Matt Hancock says he's "reviewed the relevant evidence" and that he is "minded not to issue" an intervention notice. He says the "proposed merger does not raise concerns in relation to public interest considerations which would meet the threshold for intervention".

LONDON (AP) — Britain’s government says it does not intend to refer U.S. media conglomerate Comcast’s 22 billion pound ($30.7 billion) takeover offer for London-based Sky to competition authorities, saying the proposed merger doesn’t raise concerns on public interest grounds.

Culture Secretary Matt Hancock says he’s “reviewed the relevant evidence” and that he is “minded not to issue” an intervention notice.

He says the “proposed merger does not raise concerns in relation to public interest considerations which would meet the threshold for intervention”.

The parties have until 5 p.m. May 24 for submissions before he makes a final decision on whether to intervene.

interesting how TVnewscheck doesn’t post news of FCC statements today, which would seem like the FCC backstepping by opening more public comment (nice excuse for them to change their position and say newer comments have altered their thoughts on the merger) and then not making a decision to at least July 12th now – (giving Sinclair time to decide to just call the whole thing off). TVnewscheck also did not post anything about DOJ last week – saying they were going to let other DOJ entities speak before they do. What are these other DOJ departments? The DOJ Criminal Division, The DOJ tax division….. WOW, big thing to leave out. What is exactly going on that DOJ has ever had Criminal & Tax divisions comment on a merger before they make a statement? These seem like two major developments that TVnewscheck is keeping mum about.
