Vonn Jones Named KETV News Director

The assistant news director is promoted to succeed the retiring Rose Ann Shannon at Hearst’s ABC affiliate in Nebraska.

Vonn Jones, who for 18 years has served as KETV Omaha’s assistant news director, will become the station’s news director on March 1. Jones succeeds Rose Ann Shannon, who recently announced her retirement after serving at the Hearst-owned ABC affiliate for 31 years, the last 25 as news director.

“Vonn has been instrumental in contributing to our overall commitment to news as well as to our strong connection to the Omaha community,” said Ariel Roblin, KETV president-general manager. “His clear vision for KETV NewsWatch 7 — which is rooted in serving the community with important news and weather information on TV, on digital devices, and on social media — is a key to the evolution of our products today and in the future.”

A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Jones first joined the KETV newsroom as an intern. He went on to TV news positions in Milwaukee before returning to KETV, working his way up the reporting and producing ranks to become assistant news director.

“Having been part of the incredible growth of KETV over nearly two decades — including the construction and move to our new home at 7 Burlington Station — I couldn’t be more proud or excited to lead our talented team into a new and exciting era.” Jones said, adding: “We will continue to work to prove to viewers why we are Omaha’s news leader.”
