Cox Names Ray Carter Regional VP For TV

He will oversee Cox Media Group’s Boston, Charlotte, Memphis and Seattle TV markets, in addition to Pittsburgh.

Cox Media Group (CMG) today promoted Ray Carter, currently CMG Pittsburgh’s VP-GM, to CMG’s regional VP for television, reporting to EVP Jane Williams. He will oversee CMG’s Boston, Charlotte, Memphis and Seattle TV markets, in addition to Pittsburgh.

In addition, CMG named Rob Babin, currently CMG Miami Radio’s VP-GM, as CMG’s new regional VP for radio, reporting to Executive VP Bill Hendrich. Babin will oversee CMG’s Houston, Long Island, San Antonio and Tampa Radio markets, in addition to Miami. 

“Ray has been a leader with our television division for 20 years,” said Williams. “He has a successful, proven track record and currently leads one of the top NBC affiliates in the country. As VP-GM Ray has led WPXI-TV to historical ratings and revenue heights. Ray’s passion for this industry is unparalleled, and he is the perfect leader to take advantage of all the new and exciting opportunities facing the television industry.”

Carter, a 30-year broadcast veteran, joined CMG and WPXI, its NBC affiliate in Pittsburgh, as a GM in 2001. Before then, he was the executive in charge of local news in several different media markets. Throughout his career, Carter also has worked as the news director of local news operations in many markets, including Des Moines, Salt Lake City and Atlanta.
