WDRB’s Bill Lamb Getting Kentucky Mic Award

Bill Lamb of Block Communications-owned WDRB Louisville, Ky. (DMA 49), will be presented the Kentucky Broadcasters Association’s highest award at its annual convention on Oct. 9.

The Kentucky Mic Award is presented to those individuals who have made outstanding personal contributions to the broadcasting profession in Kentucky. It is presented only when contributions are deemed worthy of this high honor and is not given every year. Recipients of this award, and only recipients of this award, become members of the Kentucky Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

The Kentucky Mic Award was first presented by KBA to Ken Sparnon in 1955. Since then, 75 Kentucky broadcasters have received the award. Among these are former Governor A.B. “Happy” Chandler and Louisville disc jockey Terry Meiners.

Lamb is president-GM of WDRB Media (WDRB, WBKI and WMYO) in Louisville and is also the VP of broadcast operations for Block Communications, overseeing eight television stations. According to Block, since 2009, WDRB has climbed from the No. 4 ranked television station in the Louisville market to No. 1 in terms of both news and revenue.

WDRB says it now has the largest newsroom in Kentucky with 94 journalists and produces 59 hours of news per week.

Lamb is also a past recipient of the Quill and Badge Award from the International Union of Police Associations, given to him for an editorial supporting a wounded police officer.
