Gray Television’s NBC affiliate WECT Wimington, N.C. (DMA 129), has promoted Brad Myers to news director. The appointment is effective May 14, following the departure of Scott Saxton.

Shortly before graduating from Marshall University in 2005, Myers started his news career at WSAZ Huntington, W.Va. In 2016, he began at WECT as the morning executive producer and was eventually promoted to dayside executive producer.

He helped lead the newsroom’s multiplatform operations during Hurricanes Matthew and Florence, produces the weekly “Tech Connect” franchise, and was instrumental in the development of the WECT Digital Studio, which was recently awarded a 2019 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Innovation.

“Over the past three years Brad has displayed solid leadership in his roles within the newsroom and brought a wealth of experience and knowledge from his 12 years prior at WSAZ,” said Mark Mendenhall, WECT VP-GM. “He is surrounded by a great news team and I have no doubt that his energetic and collaborative style will continue to build on the great tradition of news that WECT is known for in the Cape Fear region.”

Myers said: “I’m looking forward to continuing the growth of WECT News as we proceed to innovate on more platforms than ever to serve our expanding community. I believe in maintaining the strong legacy of trust and commitment that has made WECT Southeastern North Carolina’s news leader for the past 65 years.”
