Univision Announces Key Station Appointments

They are designed to propel the Spanish-language media company’s local media division into the next phase of growth.

Univision Communications today announced several promotions and appointments within its local media division, effective Dec. 1, following Univision’s recent acquisition of stations in Orlando, Tampa and Washington from Entravision.

Diane Kniowski, Univision’s president of local media, said: “Today, I am pleased to announce several promotions within our division that will position our teams to lead in their respective markets. These promotions reflect our commitment to hire top talent from within and further affirm our commitment to the community in producing, providing, and showcasing local news that matters.”

The following executives have been promoted:

  • Gianncarlo Cifuentesbecomes vice president, regional news director for Tampa and Orlando. Cifuentes has held various positions at the company since joining in 2002 and most recently served as regional news director of Raleigh, Atlanta and Philadelphia. An industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience in broadcast media, he has won more than 23 Emmys and is a five-time GABBY Awards recipient.
  • Jose Figueroatakes on the role of vice president, director of sales in Orlando. He joined Univision in 2012 and most recently held the role of national sales manager in Miami.
  • Veronika Moroianhas been elevated to president and general manager, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., and New York station manager, where she will lead business strategy for all three markets. Moroian joined Univision in 2003 and most recently was VP of business strategy for New York.
  • Roberto Yañez has been promoted to president and regional manager for the newly created Northeast Corridor, comprising New York, Philadelphia, Washington, and Cleveland. Yañez joined Univision in 2010 and has been president and general manager of Univision New York since 2017.

“Through this strategic change to our local media structure, I’m confident that Gianncarlo, Jose, Veronika and Roberto, along with our tremendous local teams in Orlando, Tampa and Washington, D.C., will usher in an exciting new chapter for Univision,” Kniowski added.
