Cozi TV Adds ‘Gimme A Break!’ And ‘Amen’ Starting Jan. 3

Nell Harper and Deacon Frye have found a new television home for the New Year. Beginning Monday, Jan. 3, fans of Gimme a Break! and Amen can now enjoy their favorite episodes every weekday afternoon on Cozi TV, starting at 3 p.m. ET.

Meredith McGinn, executive vice president, diginets and original production, said: “We are thrilled to add the straight-talking, warm-hearted humor of Nell Carter and the high energy antics and wit of Sherman Hemsley into our Cozi TV programming lineup, starting Jan. 3. Our viewers will again enjoy the unforgettable moments that made Amen and Gimme a Break! two of NBC’s most beloved sitcoms.”

Gimme a Break! debuted on NBC in 1981 and continued its network run for six seasons, concluding in 1987. The sitcom was anchored by the memorable performance of Nell Harper (Nell Carter) as a housekeeper for a retired police chief (Dolph Sweet) and his three daughters. A foster son Joey (Joey Lawrence) joined the show in season three. Numerous celebrities appeared on the show throughout its run, including The Pointer Sisters, Whitney Houston, Milton Berle, Dennis Haysbert, Rue McClanahan and many others.

Amen made its television series debut in 1986 on NBC and continued for five years before concluding in 1991. The show was led by Ernest Frye (Sherman Hemsley), a widowed deacon at a Philadelphia church who also practices law. Trouble frequently follows Deacon Frye throughout the series, with his penchant for dishonesty and scheming leading to unforgettable moments that Cozi viewers can again relieve. It also follows the life of Frye’s daughter Thelma (Anna Maria Horsford) and her love interest, Rev. Rueben Gregory (Clifton Davis).
