TVN Webinar: IP Networking State Of The Art

As broadcasting continues its migration to IP video networking, firsthand expertise in building new systems remains rare and coveted. Three industry leaders who have led their companies through this transition will speak to their unique experiences in a TVNewsCheck Working Lunch Webinar, IP Networking State of the Art, on March 16 at 1 p.m.

Speakers will look at the different ways of building new systems and discuss how experimenting led to the right approaches to suit their needs, along with considerations like zero-trust security that are vital to the process.

The speakers:

Paul Cheesbrough, CTO & President of Digital, Fox Corp. — He leads the company’s technology teams and operations and also oversees Fox’s digital strategy and streaming products.

Before the March 2019 spin off of Fox by 21st Century Fox and the establishment of Fox as a standalone public company, Cheesbrough served as chief technology officer for 21st Century Fox, where he oversaw the company’s technology operations globally. Prior, he served as chief technology officer for News Corp, overseeing the enterprise technologies and digital products and platforms across the business as well as the technology investment portfolio. In these roles, Cheesbrough has led significant change and transformation through the implementation of modern technologies using internal teams and a range of established and earlier stage technology partners.

Before joining News Corp, Cheesbrough served as chief information officer at the Telegraph Media Group, where he pioneered the development of a wide range of new digital products. Earlier, he was the controller of digital media for the BBC, having started his career in IBM’s media division as a software engineer.

Mike Kelley, CISO, The E.W. Scripps Co. — As E.W. Scripps’ first CISO, he is the principal adviser to senior leadership on information security and is responsible for managing the information security function from the development of strategy through day-to-day operations.

His previous role was senior manager of global information security, risk management and compliance at Dana Limited, a Fortune 500 company, where he led an enterprise level initiative to modernize the information security program. Over three years he implemented an enterprise IT risk management program that served as the foundation for IT strategy and transformed the cybersecurity program to align with industry standards over a three-year roadmap. He began his career with KPMG LLP as an information risk management associate providing internal and external audit consulting for clients in the restaurant, banking, insurance and healthcare industries.

Kelley has over a decade of experience that includes internal/external audit consulting, risk management advisory and information security program implementation. He is deeply involved in the information security industry serving as a governing body member on multiple CISO Executive Summits, speaking at numerous professional networking forums, lecturing on topics of his profession at universities and is actively engaged in the local ISSA chapter.

Francois Legrand, Senior Director, Capital Project Management, Governance and Engineering, Core Systems, CBC/Radio-Canada — After working as an intern, Legrand has been with CBC/Radio-Canada since 2004. He joined the corporation as a broadcast systems designer and has since then been involved in a wide range of projects and held several positions.

As senior director of core systems engineering, he manages the team responsible for all capital projects related to CBC/Radio-Canada’s core infrastructure, including the implementation of the new media over IP infrastructure. In is free time, he is interested in anything related to 3D printing, CNC woodworking and Arduino/esp-based DIY electronics. Legrand is frequently invited to present the initiatives and the technological vision of CBC/Radio-Canada for local and international audiences.

Paul Briscoe, Chief Architect, TAG — He brings to TAG more than 30 years of experience delivering leading-edge solutions from both the client (CBC) and the vendor (Leitch, Harris, Imagine) engineering perspectives.

He leads the charge driving the roadmap for TAG and in helping clients define their requirements in making the transition to IP.

A SMPTE Fellow with several patents and author of numerous industry standards to his name, Briscoe is TAG’s evangelist and visionary.

Andy Rayner

Andy Rayner, Chief Technologist, Nevion — As well as providing company-wide technical strategy and direction, Andy Rayner heads up the Nevion UK technology center. He is a regular speaker at key global broadcast technology events and conferences. He is a SMPTE fellow and sits on the VSF board of directors and the AIMS TWG. He is an active participant in many standards forums.

Prior to joining Nevion in 2010, Rayner was head of broadcast technology at BT. In this role, he was responsible for the design of the BT Global IP Media Network — the world’s first traffic engineered MPLS media network. He also oversaw and architected the development of key video interfacing, monitoring and protection technology.

Rayner has filed many patents, both with BT and Nevion. During his time with BT, he was awarded the Martlesham Gold Medal for technical innovation. With Nevion, he was one of the team who received a technical Emmy for JPEG 2000 standardization.
