Journalism Prof Named WJAC News Director

Penn State instructor James Platzer, who began his career WJAC in 1990 as a part-time photographer, was news director at WFMY Greenboro, N.C., and WAND Decatur, Ill. WJAC is an NBC affiliate owned by Cox Media Group.

James Platzer has been named news director of Cox Media Group’s WJAC Johnstown, Pa., effective April 4.

Platzer, currently a journalism instructor at Penn State, began his career at WJAC in 1990 as a part-time photographer. 

Originally from Lewistown, Pa., he has been a news director at WFMY Greensboro, N.C., and at WAND Decatur, IL. 

“James brings an abundant amount of knowledge and experience to WJAC-TV,” said Kevin Hayes, CMG Johnstown General Manager and Vice President. “He has a nose for news, is a great leader, and I am thrilled that he has joined our team.”
