KCOY Santa Barbara Launches HD News

Cowles California Media-owned digital duopoly (CBS and Fox) KCOY Santa Barbara-San Luis Obispo-Santa Maria, Calif. (DMA 122) have launched high definition local newscasts .

Bringing viewers local news in HD was a seven month process, from the planning stage to the actual build. A separate, new HD News suite was dedicated to the new equipment while the existing news suite continued to produce the stations’ six hours of news per day.

“The continued hard work of our engineering department and a dedicated team of KCOY employees made this project possible”, said General Manager Kevin Harlan. “The stations’ owners, Cowles California supported our decision to be the first in the market to deliver this technology to our viewers.”

“The Ross Overdrive system is being used in major markets across the country” said News Director John Zuchelli.  “It will allow us to bring breaking news more quickly to our viewers.”
