KTXS, KTXE Debut HD Local News

The Bonten ABC affiliates in Abilene and San Angelo, Texas, launched the upgraded broadcasts yesterday. Panasonic, Bitcentral and Grass Valley are among the equipment suppliers.

Yesterday, Aug. 10, Bonten Media Group’s KTXS-TV (ABC) and KTXE-TV (ABC) became the first television stations in the Abilene-Sweetwater and San Angelo markets to broadcast local news in high definition.

“We are very excited about presenting local news in high definition and adding the new TruVu MAX weather system, the most advanced system on the market today,” said says VP-GM Kyle Krebs.

For the upgrade to HD, the station chose Panasonic P2 HD field cameras and studio cameras. KTXS will also be using the Bitcentral news editing system, while Grass Valley provided the production switcher.

“Our substantial investment in being the first to bring local HD news to the Big Country and Concho Valley is tangible evidence of Bonten’s commitment to leadership and to meeting the needs of our West Texas viewers,” said Randy Bongarten, Bonten Media Group president and CEO.
