Most shows turned in lower performances in the first week of April. Among the few in first run to better their week-earlier numbers were Ellen DeGeneres, Judge Joe Brown and Extra Weekend.

Syndie Ratings Continue To Founder
Ratings for syndicated shows were depressed in the week ending April 8, due to the holidays and spring break. In addition, many shows were in repeats and some were preempted for tornado coverage in the Southwest.
Talk Shows
Nevertheless, Dr. Phil (CTD) scored its biggest margin of victory since mid-February. Phil took No. 1 talk show honors for the 23rd time this season, holding steady week to week at a 2.7. In second place, Live with Kelly (Disney-ABC) remained at a 2.4. Dr. Oz (Sony) fell to a new season low, sinking 11% to a 2.4 and landing in a tie with Kelly. The decline for Oz was the largest for any talk show this week.
Ellen DeGeneres (WBDTD) rebounded 11% to a 2.1, tying Maury (NBCU), which eroded 9% to a 2.1. Anderson (WBDTD) dipped 8% to a 1.2, with an all-repeat week, but extended its winning streak as the season’s top new first-run strip to 30 weeks in a row.
Jeremy Kyle (Debmar-Mercury) and We the People with Gloria Allred (Entertainment Studios) were unchanged 0.6 and 0.4, respectively. Excused (CTD) the new latenight dating show, held steady at a 0.6.
Court Shows
BRAND CONNECTIONS
Judge Joe Brown (CTD) was the only court show to improve from the week before, growing 4% to a 2.6 and finishing as the No. 2 gaveler for the 691st consecutive week.
Courtroom champ Judge Judy (CTD) led the category, as usual, despite easing 6% to a 6.3. People’s Court (WBDTD) was flat at a 2.0; Judge Alex (Twentieth) softened 7% to a new season low 1.4; Judge Mathis (WBDTD) also faded 7% to a new season low 1.4; Divorce Court (Twentieth) was flat at a 1.3; while Swift Justice with Jackie Glass (CTD) deteriorated 17% a new season low 1.0.
Magazine Shows
Entertainment Tonight (CTD) was off 3% from the week before to a 3.4; Inside Edition (CTD) remained at a 2.9; TMZ (WBDTD) tumbled 10% to a 1.9; Access Hollywood (NBCU) held steady at a 1.8; The Insider (CTD) was down 12% to a 1.5; and Extra (WBDTD) was unchanged at a 1.5, but was the only mag not to decline from last year at this time. In addition, companion show Extra Weekend was up 14% from the prior session.
Game Shows
Wheel of Fortune (CTD) topped the games although it declined 3% to a 6.4; Jeopardy (CTD) weakened 4% to a 5.5; Family Feud (Debmar-Mercury) was flat at a 2.9; while Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (Disney-ABC) was unchanged at a 2.5.
Off-Net Sitcoms
Among off-net sitcoms, leader Big Bang Theory (WBDTD) lost 1% from the previous frame to a 6.9; Two and a Half Men (WBDTD) slumped 7% to a new season low 5.5; Family Guy (Twentieth) was down 7% to a 4.0; How I Met Your Mother (Twentieth) slipped 3% to a 3.9; Seinfeld (Sony) slid 4% to a 2.4; while Everybody Loves Raymond (CTD) rose 4% to a 2.4.
Newcomer 30 Rock (NBCU) was off 7% to a 1.3 in mostly latenight slots; It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Twentieth) stayed at a 1.2; while Till Death (Sony) revived 20% to a 0.6.
Off-Net Weekly Hours
Criminal Minds (CTD) led the off-net weekly hours for the second week in a row, but stumbled 10% to a 2.8. Law & Order (NBCU) downticked 4% to a 2.7; Monk (NBCU) surged 20% to a 2.4; The Closer (WBDTD) clocked a 2.1, which was on par with the week before, while Cold Case (WBDTD), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (NBCU) and Without a Trace (WBDTD) each slipped 5% to 2.0s, and landed in a four-way tie with Numbers (CTD), which was unchanged at a 2.0.
