Scripps Adds WXYZ, WPTV Station Managers

Mike Murri and Lloyd Bucher will take handle day-to-day operations as the station’s GMs take on more responsibilities as Scripps regional general managers.

After creating regional general managerships at its TV stations, placing more duties on its station GMs, Scripps Broadcasting has named station managers at two of its stations to help with managing day-to-day operations. They both begin their new roles immediately.

At ABC affiliate WXYZ Detroit (DMA 11), Director of Sales Mike Murri has been named station manager. “Mike has tremendous knowledge of the Detroit market and a history of success with the organization, said WXYZ VP-GM Ed Fernandez. “More importantly, the passion and dedication he brings to his work makes him the ideal candidate to assume this role.”

At NBC affiliate WPTV West Palm Beach, Fla. (DMA 38), Director of Sales Lloyd Bucher is the new station manager. The station’s GM, Steve Wasserman, said: “As station manager, Lloyd will lead the department head team and help ensure that we stay focused on the station’s goals and strategic plan. His dynamic leadership style, people management skills, commitment to excellence and intimate knowledge of this market clearly make him the ideal person for this new position.”

WXYZ’s Murri is a twenty-nine year veteran of the station. He began his career with WXYZ as an account executive in 1983 and became local sales manager in 1996. He was named director of sales in 2001. 

WPTV’s Bucher has been the station’s director of sales for the past five-and-a-half years. Prior to coming to Scripps, he was general sales manager of WPLG Miami and local sales manager at KYW Philadelphia. Before getting into broadcasting, Bucher was a practicing attorney in the Philadelphia area.
