Radio’s Hogan Re-Elected SBE President

Ralph Hogan, director of engineering for KJZZ-FM/KBAQ-FM, Tempe, Ariz., wins second term in first-ever online balloting. Election also brings newcomers to board: Andrea Cummis,  WNET New York; John Heimerl,  WHRO-TV/WHRO-FM/ WHRV-FM Norfolk, Va.; and Wayne M. Pecena, Texas A&M University.

Ralph Hogan was elected to a second term (2012-13) as president of the Society of Broadcast Engineers, the professional organization said today following its first-ever online election.

“I am looking forward to continuing the excellent progress the Society has made in the past year and begin exploring the recommendations of the strategic planning committee with the board of directors at our October National Meeting,” said Hogan, who is director of engineering for KJZZ-FM/KBAQ-FM, Tempe, Ariz.

Also returning to the board as officers: Joe Snelson, vice president of engineering at Meredith Corp., as vice president; James Leifer, director of engineering and IT at Clear Channel South Florida, as secretary; and Jerry Massey, corporate regional engineer, Entercom Communications, as treasurer.

New to the board as directors: Andrea Cummis, senior director of engineering and operations, WNET New York; John Heimerl, vice president of strategic technologies, WHRO-TV/WHRO-FM/ WHRV-FM Norfolk, Va.; and Wayne M. Pecena, director of engineering, Texas A&M University-Educational Broadcast Services, College Station, Texas.

Board returnees: Tim Anderson, manager, strategic radio market and product development, Harris Broadcast Communications Division; Gary Kline, senior vice president of engineering, Cumulus Media.; and Scott Mason, west coast director of engineering, CBS Radio.

The online balloting produced produced 1,313 total votes, a 64% increase over 2011.

SBE’s National Meeting is being held in conjunction with The Rocky Mountain Audio Video Expo (AVX 2012) and the SBE/SMPTE Engineering Boot Camp. It takes place in the Crowne Plaza Denver International Airport Hotel in Denver, Oct. 23-24.
