‘Live!’ With Michael, ‘Steve’ Off To Fast Starts

Debuts of Live! with new co-host Michael Strahan and Steve Harvey scored big in the overnight Nielsens. Live! was up 44% in total households  from its year-ago performance when Regis Philbin was still co-hosting, from a 2.7 rating and 9 share to a 3.9/13. Meanwhile, Harvey was up 50% in total households from the year-earlier time period, from a 1.0/3 to a 1.5/4. It was up 25% from its lead-in, from 1.2/4 to a 1.5/4.

Broadcast syndication had a huge day with two debuts on Tuesday. Disney-ABC’s Live! with Kelly and Michael with former New York Giants football player Michael Strahan teaming with Kelly Ripa for the first time and NBCUniversal’s Steve Harvey bowing to huge ratings.

Live! with Kelly and Michael was up 44% over Live! with Regis and Kelly this time last year in total households, from a 2.7 rating and 9 share to a 3.9/13, based on Nielsen overnight ratings in 54 metered markets.

Among women 25-54, it was up 64% from a 1.4/10 to a 2.3/15. Among women 18-49, it was up 70% from a 1.0/8 to a 1.7/13 and in women 18-34 it was up 83%, from a 0.6/5 to a 1.1/10.

In New York, where Live! tapes, it was up 140% from a 2.5/9 to a 6.0/18. It was up 36% from its lead in, ABC’s Good Morning America.

Live! won its time slot in 14 of the top 15 markets.

Meantime, NBCUniversal’s Steve Harvey premiered to encouraging ratings.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

It was up 50% from the year-earlier time period from a 1.0/3 to a 1.5/4 in total households. It was up 25% from its lead-in, from 1.2/4 to a 1.5/4.

Among women 25-54 in Nielsen’s metered markets, Steve was up 80% from last year from a 0.5/3 to a 0.9/5. Among women 18-49, it was up 100% from a 0.4/2 to a 0.8/5 and in women 18-34 it was up 133% from a 0.3/2 to a 0.7/4.

The show is paired up with Warner Bros.’ Ellen in many markets and is airing in top markets on NBC Owned Television stations like WNBC New York and KNBC Los Angeles.

On WNBC New York it was up 375% from its lead-in, Sony’s canceled Nate Berkus from a 0.4/1 to a 1.9/5. Steve improved its time slot by 171% from last year when New York Live was in that slot. Starting next Monday, Nate will be replace another new talk show, Jeff Probst Show from CBS Television Distribution.
